Mostly quiet across the Lower 48 with northerly flow out of Canada behind a strong cold front keeping the Southeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Northeast dry and very comfortable. Beautiful weather on Monday for vast majority of the population of the United States.
A moisture plume out of the Eastern Pacific subtropics is crossing into the Southwest and Texas — good news for additional heavy rainfall in the southern states in coming days.
Headlines for Monday
East and Great Lakes: A large cyclonic gyre involved with trough over Canada will continue to swing disturbances through the Great Lakes and Northeast with cooler air = unsettled through next week.
Southeast: heavy rain risk into Wed/Thurs with frontal boundary
Great Basin and Mountain West: heavy snowfall in Colorado including Denver.
Another “cold blast” early next week in the Great Lakes and Northeast!
Tomorrow May 5th is ECMWF Seasonal Forecast Update!
ECMWF 18z Precipitation Type + Intensity | Next 6-days
Not really a strong storm system but plenty of moisture and cold air combine over Colorado to dump a LOT of snowfall even for early May.
Boulder WFO (NWS Office) is at 13.5” of snowfall for the upcoming event. Denver is pushing up to 5” and the metro may seen widespread 6”-12” with at least 1.0” to 1.5” QPF. The actual amount of snow is dependent upon lower-level temperatures, which should be quite cold in the 20s.

North Atlantic tropics — precipitable water next 6-days = dead quiet / no surprise
Western Pacific shows multiple “waves” — you can eyeball a parade of potential storms but maybe 1 will briefly develop or catch fire as the basin is still in La Niña mode and unfavorable for Typhoon development.
Eastern Pacific Tropics — nothing development — waiting on tropical waves to cross from the North Atlantic toward end of the month to get the party started out here — which should be an active season with developing Super El Niño.
