Tropical Storm Bertha (02L) remains heavily wind sheared in the northern Gulf just south of Mobile, Alabama Maximum sustained winds are up to 60 mph, and pressure at 997 mb, but the worst weather is mainly offshore. NHC is not expecting more intensification due to the wind shear and dry air pushing southward at mid-levels. However, tropical storm conditions are likely along the Louisiana coast. Looking into Thursday, some of Bertha’s remnants may approach the Texas coast near Houston, but not expecting the structure to remain in tact due to land interaction. We certainly dodged a bullet with Bertha, and we can thank the non-tropical genesis pathway + strong wind shear likely aided by El Niño in the Pacific. Bertha has remained quite resilient today.
