Hurricane Imelda nearing Bermuda — heading away from the East Coast with a strong trough digging into the Northeast — all to be replaced soon enough by central U.S. ridging. Mid-level dry air extends along 30°N from Los Angeles to Houston and then into South Florida. Easterly flow off of the Atlantic will begin to filter moisture into Florida — and create a large precipitable maximum over the Gulf of Mexico.
My favorite parameter shows tropical moisture billowing out of the Gulf of Mexico and across Florida as a stationary boundary lifts north.
