April 12, 2025 Saturday Evening Update

Enjoy the beautiful Sunday

What the month did

April 2025 was the 16th-warmest April in the 132-year national record (1895–2026), at 53.6°F against a 1991–2020 normal of 51.8°F (+1.7°F).

April 2025 was the 31st-wettest April in the 132-year national record (1895–2026), at 2.9in against a 1991–2020 normal of 2.7in (+0.2in).

NOAA/NCEI Climate at a Glance, contiguous United States. This is the observed record for the month, not a score of anything said in this piece — the forecast ledger begins 2026-08-17 and cannot reach earlier posts.

Hope everyone enjoyed a beautiful but perhaps cool day for mid-April across the country. I don’t know where all of you live — but I think I’ll need to know that soon enough. Over the past several months, with the help of A.I. coding assistants (Claude and Grok), I’ve been able to put together a LOT of products that can be rolled out incrementally to paying subscribers. You’re already set at the $5/month level here on Substack to get everything that I will produce — at least for personal usage. You’re all founding members.

Later next week, I’ll send you an email from my weathertrader.com domain with an invitation to sign up for Forecast Points, which will be a customized “Morning Briefing” email, PDF, or HTML view on the web, that is automatically generated from my internal weather model database. This will be different than what is out there in the basic weather app marketplace and meant for more savvy users that can handle an onslaught of data and information. My job is to curate that data firehose and provide it in a beautiful format with clarity of purpose. You should NOT have to do an insane amount of clicking, panning, or dashboard treasure hunts! Interactive maps make me nauseous.

For subscribers

The rest of this piece is for paid subscribers of Weather Trader. The Post keeps the archive, the index and the record; the writing itself stays behind the same subscription it was published under.
