Only weak Tropical Storm Gordon is holding down the fort in the tropical Atlantic.
An area of low pressure will slowly develop off the Southeast U.S. and could become (briefly) a tropical storm (Helene) on Monday before heading into North Carolina. The main threat would be heavy rain and some gusty winds. While the system is over the warm Gulf Stream waters, upper-level wind shear will inhibit rapid intensification.
