NOAA/NCEI Climate at a Glance, contiguous United States. This is the observed record for the month, not a score of anything said in this piece — the forecast ledger begins 2026-08-17 and cannot reach earlier posts.
Quiet weather today across most of the Lower 48 with only chances of scattered showers. Cool and crisp Canadian high pressure remains entrenched across the eastern U.S. with very dry air — the only exception is Florida.
A series of upper-level lows will cycle from the Southwest into the Plains over the next week providing significant potential for severe weather — but not until later in the week.
