The most recent ECMWF HRES (12z) model simulation really dropped the bomb on the East Coast storm system with “bomb cyclone” deepening down to 976 mb over North Carolina. This is very intense low-pressure for this location for a non-tropical or non-hurricane system. Alas, this is all rain, and a lot of it, except for a short burst of snowfall on the backside in New England and maybe higher elevations of WV, PA, and NY. The big cities are all rain. The good news is that once this storm exits, quiet weather for travelers on Christmas weekend.
Maximum wind gusts through 5-days show hurricane force (> 63 knots) over the Atlantic. Should have no problem uncorking 40-50 mph wind gusts along the entire coast from Florida to Virginia from the storm.
