Pacific Northwest firehose and moderating temperatures across Lower 48

Much of the Lower 48 will be under the influence of strong Arctic high pressure with moderating temperatures into this weekend. The exception will be the Pacific Northwest where a series of heavy precipitation events could add up to 12-inches of rainfall at highest elevations. Not much in the way of snow as the “polar vortex” and cold air remains bottled up well to the north in Canada. Thankfully, warmer temperatures across the Lower 48 on Thursday as the early November sun still has plenty of power.
The mountains will wring out much of the moisture but some will still fall significantly into Idaho. Overall, Seattle and Portland could see 3-4” of rainfall. NWS WPC 7-day forecast maps show the wide coverage of coastal amounts over a foot. It’s early November so this is an excellent start to the 2023-24 “water year” but this would be much better as snowfall to last into the next Spring.
