Philippe (17L) is nearing its end with convection well to the east of the center, and is barely holding on as a tropical cyclone. It could degenerate at any time. Invest 91L looks much better with substantial thunderstorm activity at a lower latitude with 80%-90% chance of development in the next few days. I wouldn’t be surprised to see TD 18L and then Tropical Storm Rina in the next 24-48 hours. No other areas of tropical interest in the near term or extended range aside from Rina.

Invest 91L —> Rina will take a track northwesterly out of the deep tropics. There is a better chance according to global and mesoscale models for Rina to reach hurricane status. However, there is a potential for bust again. There is a wide variety of solutions on the eventual track of Rina by Day 10. The track is dependent upon the intensity and steering currents interacting around 20°N latitude in 5-6 days. Unlikely to see Rina threaten land at this point.
