TS Ophelia nearly became a hurricane prior to landfall in North Carolina with central pressure around 980 mb. The hybrid nature of the system prevented a tight inner-core or wind field from developing. The lingering clouds and rainfall is making for a miserable Monday in the mid-Atlantic.
The Atlantic basin remains active with Philippe {17L) and Invest 91L to be soon Tropical Storm Rina. Unfortunately for Philippe, wind shear has a caused severe disruption and we are no longer expected to see intensification, at least in the next 5-6 days. Instead, Rina is the next big hurricane on the block.
