NHC issued Potential Tropical Cyclone (16L) advisories earlier on Thursday with transition to fully tropical by early Saturday. Tropical Storm Ophelia may only be designated for 12-18 hours yet has the chance to reach 50-60 knots with higher gusts along the coast. There is an outside chance (1 in 4) of Ophelia becoming a hurricane.
The storm will wrap up tightly by Friday evening and should look impressive on satellite. There will be a heavy rain band with strong easterly winds from North Carolina up to New Jersey. This will be a significant rainfall and coastal erosion event.
